IMPLANTS

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures.  Implants provide excellent support and stability.

Dental implants are artificial roots (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into bone by a dentist. The teeth attached to implants are very natural looking and often enhance or restore a patient’s smile.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

– Implants are the strongest and longest-lasting form of tooth replacement.

– Implants look, feel and function like natural teeth. Most people do not notice any difference between their implants and their natural teeth.

– Implants prevent bone loss by providing healthy stimulation of the jaw.

– Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.

– Restore a patient’s confident smile.

– Restore chewing, speech, and digestion.

– Restore or enhance facial tissues.

– Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.

Chew better and have a nicer smile with our minimally invasive Dental Implants

Thanks to modern advances in dentistry, tooth replacement options are more effective and less invasive than in the past. Implants are vital to modern dentistry because they provide nearly the same chewing power of natural teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care. Moreover, dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that helps prevent the bone loss that can occur when teeth are missing.

Replacing a Full Arch of Teeth

Provide you with a snap-in denture to replace an entire arch of teeth. They are held in place by dental implants. Compared to traditional dentures, snap-in dentures are more stable and provide better chewing power. Snap-in dentures are minimally invasive and are the most economical form of implant treatment. Fixed-in new teeth will give you nearly the same chewing power as that of natural teeth, and they can dramatically improve your quality of life.

CROWNS

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain and zirconium (tooth colored crown) are the most popular. Porcelain and zirconium crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.

Benefits of Crowns:

  • Repair teeth that are either broken or fractured
  • Enhance your smile.
  • Fix decayed teeth.
  • Fix fractured and/or unsightly fillings.
  • Restore a tooth after root canal therapy.

FIXED BRIDGES

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.
Consists to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Benefits of fixed bridge:

  • Fill space of missing teeth.
  • Maintain facial shape.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.
  • Smile with confidence

DENTURES

A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

What Is the Right Type of Denture for You?

  • Full Dentures – If you are missing most of your teeth, we may recommend that you choose a full denture, which consists of a lower arch, an upper arch, or both.
  • Partial Dentures – We recognize that most patients want to keep their original teeth as long as their remaining teeth continue to be healthy and fully functioning. A partial denture is an excellent option for patients who are missing teeth but also still have remaining healthy teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures – The dentures are permanently attached to dental implants to accurately mimic your natural teeth. Implant-supported dentures give you a secure bite, allowing you to eat, drink, and speak with more ease and comfort than traditional dentures.

Reasons for dentures:

  • Complete Denture – Loss of all teeth in an arch.
  • Partial Denture – Loss of several teeth in an arch.
  • Enhancing smile and facial tissues.
  • Improving chewing, speech, digestion and confidence.

What is the process of getting dentures?

  • Several appointments required
  • Custom denture created with highly precise molds and measurements
  • Proper shape, color and fit is insured throughout numerous appointments
  • A natural and comfortable outcome will conclude the procedure

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.
Having a root canal done on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would die and have to be removed.

Signs and symptoms for possible root canal therapy:

  • An abscess (or pimple) on the gums.
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold.
  • Severe toothache pain.

Reasons for root canal therapy:

  • Decay has reached the tooth pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth).
  • Infection or abscess have developed inside the tooth or at the root tip.
  • Injury or trauma to the tooth.

INLAY & ONLAY

An inlay restoration is a custom-made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. Porcelain inlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth. A porcelain inlay is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented into the tooth by your dentist. Inlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma. Also, they are more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays.

Reasons for inlay restorations:

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings

An onlay restoration is a custom made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. Porcelain onlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth. An onlay is sometimes also referred to as a partial crown. Porcelain onlays are made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented onto the tooth by your dentist. Onlays are an ideal alternative to crowns (caps) because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of onlays. Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps have also been affected and need to be included in the restoration.

Reasons for onlay restorations:

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings

ALL ON 4 / ALL ON 6

Skilled, Knowledgeable Full-Mouth Rehabilitation

At Happy in Costa Rica we provide an extensive experience in restoring mouths to complete health.

Broken or missing teeth can make it difficult to chew properly or smile with confidence. No matter how hopeless the situation may seem we can restore full function and beauty to your smile, greatly increasing your quality of life.

Using state-of-the-art technology and with meticulous attention to detail, at Happy in Costa Rica we have provided full-mouth rehabilitation treatment to countless patients.

Happy in Costa Rica offers All-on-4 dental implants. The hybrid bridge is a screw-retained device, which is supported by just 4 dental implants and replaces the entire arch of teeth.

It is the most functional option and the result is as if they were natural teeth. It is a permanent solution that does not cover the palate and offers you an excellent chewing capacity, compared to traditional dentures.

The choice of having one or the other relies on the amount of remaining bone mass, muscle strength, age, and budget. Six implants will provide better anchorage and durability than 4. But sometimes there is not sufficient bone structure to support 6 dental implants so the treatment needs to be on 4.

SEDATION

What Are Your Options for Sedation Dentistry at Happy in Costa Rica?

• Oral Conscious Sedation This type of sedation is achieved without any needles. Instead, you simply take a prescribed dose of medication about an hour before your appointment. A number of oral agents developed especially for these purposes are safe and have been used for dental procedures for decades.
• Nitrous Oxide Sedation – consists of administering a mixture of medical gas nitrous oxide and oxygen, which relaxes the patient during the procedure. The patient is awake at all times, but more relaxed.
• IV Sedation – You receive the sedating medication through a vein, which quickly takes effect. This option for sedation also gives our dentist the ability to adjust the dose if necessary.

Sedation dentistry offers an excellent way to provide a safe, anxiety-free, dental experience to those who are afraid of the dentist.
Here are some advantages associated with sedation dentistry:

  • Anxiety is alleviated
  • Few side effects
  • More can be accomplished during each visit
  • No needles
  • No pain
  • Perfectly safe
  • Procedures seem to take less time

What Are Your Options for Sedation Dentistry at Happy in Costa Rica?

Most of the drugs used in sedation dentistry are classified as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines reduce anxiety, muscle spasms, insomnia and seizures. Each medication has a different half-life, meaning that the effects last for varying amounts of time. The estimated length of the procedure determines which type of drug is going to be most effective.

Here are some of the most common drugs used in oral conscious sedation:

  • Midazolan or dormicum, which is a benzodiazepine.
  • Fentanyl or morphine, which are opioids, depending on the duration of the surgery.
  • Propofol, an intravenous anesthetic, which is used both for sedation and as a component of general anesthesia or TIVA.
